What to Wear to Family Shoots

It can be a challenge to figure out what to wear to family photoshoots. We have the same challenge! James and I have a son and a daughter, so coordinating all four of us can be tricky. First and foremost, everyone should be unique in some way. You do not need to wear matching outfits. Each outfit should also fit the person's personality. Remember that these photos are meant to represent you and your family. So, if someone never wears a dress, don't wear a dress to your family portraits. If someone hates a certain color, they shouldn't wear that color. Basically, be true to who you are. That being said, there are ways to have everyone looking their best while still blending your outfits.

Add the Same Color into Each Outfit

You can choose an exact shade (like navy), or you can do monochromatic coordinating. So, someone wears royal blue, someone wears navy blue, someone has sky blue, etc. This doesn't mean everyone wears blue from head to toe. Part of each person's outfit could be blue. Or, in the case of the family above, they coordinated blue and white.

The White Top and Blue Jeans Look

SHOOTANYANGLE.COM We've all seen those photos of everyone in white t-shirts and blue jeans. Personally, I don't love this because it means everyone matches exactly. Instead, I've adapted this to simply be a white top. The top doesn't match everyone else, so it's a way to have your personality show through a bit.

Coordinate Textures or Patterns

SHOOTANYANGLE.COM You can also coordinate textures or patterns instead of the actual colors. Everyone can wear sweaters, like the photo above. You can all wear plaids, or a certain type of pattern. And if everyone wears jeans, this will coordinate it even more.

Use the Color Wheel

Copyright ShootAnyAngle.com You can find which colors compliment others based on the Color Wheel. There are a few ways to use this. You can select all cool colors (like the photo above: blues, greens, purples), or you could use complementary colors (like blue and orange), etc. If you look it up on Pinterest, you'll find several different color schemes based on the Color Wheel.

We had an absolute blast with Giulianna and Randy at their coastal cliff engagement shoot, so we couldn't wait to see them again for their Ranch at Little Hills wedding! Giulianna looked absolutely stunning. That dress looked like it was designed just for her!

These two seriously make our job easy! They are so head over heels for each other and truly best friends. They make each other laugh and smile, and it's a joy to capture. We loved it all - from the getting ready touches (complete with a bottle of Chanel) to the joyful first look, to the stunning couples portrait session, to the touching ceremony, to the reception celebration. It was the perfect day, and we were honored to be a part of it!

Katie and Scott's Coastal Backyard Wedding

I am absolutely head over heels for Katie and Scott's wedding. It was the perfect intimate wedding, and I loved every detail! They chose to get married in Scott's parent's backyard, which sits on the oceanside cliffs and is right next to a beautiful cypress forest too. They had a beautiful ceremony overlooking both with their families as violinists played from the second story balcony.

After the ceremony, they had a Second Line, which is one of the coolest things I've seen at a wedding ever! A Second Line, for those of you who don't know (I didn't!), is typical in New Orleans style parades when people dance in the street following the musicians. You see, Scott's parents' neighbors are all very close, and everyone are friends there. Because of COVID, Katie and Scott couldn't have the bigger wedding they had originally planned, but they still wanted to include everyone. For the ceremony, they did a livestream so everyone could watch, and then they took to the streets of their neighborhood. The violinists led the parade with Katie and Scott and their families following. Neighbors and friends lined the streets, throwing rose petals over the happy couple. It was the perfect way to include everyone, and I hope to see it in future weddings - even when COVID is no longer a concern! Katie and Scott then hosted a beautiful (and delicious!) backyard reception dinner (with some truly breathtaking florals).

I was obsessed with every detail of the wedding from Scott's double knotted tie to the florals, to Katie's fur shawl (goals!), to the laser cut wooden name place cards, to the invitations, to the bridal shoes, to the blankets on the chairs for the chilly coastal weather. Of course, none of that compared to the couple themselves. They are so head over heels for each other, and you can't help but watch them and smile. They are the definition of relationship goals, and we are so honored to have captured their stunning day for them! Congratulations, Katie and Scott!

We were over the moon when Ashley and Raj chose Filoli for their engagement shoot. The mansion and gardens are absolutely breathtaking, which is why it's such a popular tourist spot and has even been featured in several movies! We had the absolute honor of getting the place to ourselves for Ashely and Raj's shoot. It was a dream! The future Mr. and Mrs. were all smiles and absolutely adorable to watch together. They were having such a great time getting to experience this beautiful place together - and they even had fun fantasizing about one day living at Filoli (okay, we were all fantasizing about living there - I mean look at it!).

We're so lucky that we get to capture so many amazing couples and beautiful love stories. We can't wait to see Ashley and Raj tie the knot!

Marika & Dan's Beatles Themed Wedding

We always love when couples make their wedding unique and find fun ways to incorporate what they love. Marika and Dan are big fans of The Beatles, so they made that their theme, and we just loved it!! We even replicated some of The Beatles' famous photos! They got married in a ring of trees at Sanborn Park with colorful rugs at the altar. It made for such a cozy and intimate ceremony. Instead of bouquets, the bridesmaids even held hand-painted tambourines!

Their beautiful reception felt like it was on top of the world. It was surrounded by stunning views of the mountains above Saratoga, California. There were colorful flowers and streamers, and their wedding "cake" was actually cinnamon rolls made by the bride's mother! It all came together so beautifully, and we were so glad to capture it! Congratulations, Marika and Dan!

Helene & Brad's Fun Engagement Shoot on the Cliffs

We first met Helene and Brad several years back at their friends' wedding. So, we were over the moon when they told us they were engaged! We met them at one of our favorite spots, Wilder Ranch, for their engagement shoot. They were initially a little worried because they didn't know what to do in front of the camera, which we totally understand. It can be a little weird to meet someone practically for the first time and then that person tells you to kiss a bunch while they aim a lens at you! Helene and Brad were just amazing though! They just embraced their fun side, and they even threw in some goofy shots, which we love because it usually leads to some pretty awesome moments. Actually some of the goofy shots (particularly of Helene's hair in the wind) became some of our favorites! We can't wait for the wedding! Congratulations, you two!

Martina & Terrence's Mountaintop Wedding

There are just some real life stories that are better than fiction. That's Martina and Terrence's love story. Little did they know, their love story actually started decades before they even met - and it began with their grandfathers! Martina and Terrence started dating after meeting in a calculus course. Months into their dating, they found out that their grandfathers not only worked together for years and years, but they were close friends who live around the corner from each other!

So, when it came time to plan their big day, they decided to do it back where it all started - the Santa Cruz area. Their wedding was at the Chapel on the Hill off Highway 17, and their reception was where Martina's grandparents live! We love how it all came full circle. It was a beautiful day, and we were so honored to be a part of it!

Sarah and Adam's Lovers Lane Engagement Shoot

The area is known as Lovers Lane for a reason - it's the perfect spot for couples in love! We were thrilled when Sarah and Adam chose it for their engagement shoot. The unique Andy Goldworthy's Wood Line is just so picturesque. It definitely attracts a lot of tourists and photographers, so we had to wait awhile for a clear background, but it was so worth it! Sarah and Adam were up for anything and everything, and we just had a wonderful time with them. They are a beautiful couple - inside and out! They even made sure to check in with us and ask us how we had been doing during this crazy time and even asked to hear stories about our little boy. It was so kind and sweet!

Emerald Bay Lookout

Okay, not quite the Bay Area, but if you are headed to Lake Tahoe, make sure to bring your special someone to the Emerald Bay Lookout for a stunning proposal. I recommend going in the morning to avoid crowds (it gets super crowded).

Sutro Baths

The ruins of the historic San Francisco Sutro Baths makes for a great proposal spot. Yes, it gets crowded (especially at sunset which is the best lighting), so choose a weekday if possible.

Palace of the Fine Arts

This place is so colossal and amazing. A great spot for a San Francisco proposal.

San Francisco City Hall

City Hall is one of the most gorgeous buildings in San Francisco. It's a great spot for proposals and photos. Best time to go is on a weekday morning, and make sure to get there early for parking and going through security.

Lands End

This is the trail just above Sutro Baths in San Francisco. It's a favorite of photographers because of how beautiful it is. A great proposal spot (but try a weekday to avoid crowds).

San Francisco Piers

Pier 7 and 14 are good spots for photos, but so is the walk along the water with the Bay Bridge in the background. Go for a stroll, find the spot, and propose!

Santa Cruz Boardwalk

It's not only a great date spot, it's a great proposal spot, especially if you also had your first date here!

Walton Lighthouse

This beach is a bit quieter than the main beaches, and it has a great lighthouse you can walk up to. It's a fun spot for a proposal and engagement photos.

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

My mom is an amazing cook and baker. She is known as the one who will make you truffles for your birthday and bring the best treats to any party. For years, my dad and I would sneak into the kitchen to steal one of her freshly baked goods only for her to yell from the other room, "If you are going to have one, grab the ugliest one!" The pretty ones were always reserved for a party or a special recipient. I used to hate that as a kid, but ironically, I now do the exact same thing to my husband and son because the prettiest are reserved for photography! Still, even though my dad and I got the runts of the litter, they still tasted AMAZING.

One of my favorite treats has always been her chocolate chip banana muffins. I could eat an entire batch myself in one sitting! Now, I can make the muffins for my family too, but I still love it when we visit my parents and my mom has a batch of muffins fresh out of the oven. How is it that she always times it to be fresh from the oven as we arrive?

For this recipe, you'll need flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, sugar, 1 egg, vegetable oil, vanilla, chocolate chips, and of course bananas. This is the perfect recipe to use your mushy and overly ripe bananas. I make sure my bananas are brown before I use them for this. First, preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. In a small bowl, peel 2 overly ripe bananas and mash them. In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1/2 tsp of baking soda, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 1/2 tsp vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dry, and combine until all powder has been mixed in and there are no more pockets of powder when you mix.

Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners or baking parchment. Fill each cup 3/4 of the way with batter. Then add chocolate chips on top and sprinkle it with sugar. Then, pop them in the oven for about 25 minutes.

Giulianna & Randy's Coastal Cliff Engagement Shoot

I have had such cabin fever since the pandemic began. I would stare at the computer screen night after night looking up great spots so I could find an epic location for a gorgeous photoshoot. When we talked to Giulianna and Randy, they were immediately onboard with going someplace epic. They particularly loved the idea of doing their engagement photos with a beautiful coastal background, and we were thrilled!

Giulianna and Randy were all smiles when we met them at the Wilder Ranch Coastal trailhead, and we instantly knew it was going to be a really fun shoot. They make each other laugh so effortlessly! They are clearly head over heals for each other, and that love was such a joy to photograph. And the way the wind played with Giulianna's hair and dress was just stunning. It was quite cold out there, but she was SUCH a trooper! It was an amazing shoot, and we cannot wait until the big day!

We were so excited to meet up with Rachelle and Nick for their Fall colors engagement shoot at Vasona Lake. The second we met them, we knew we were just going to have a blast! They are so much fun! Noelle and Bobby got married at a stunning hillside vineyard, Sycamore Creek Vineyards, on a crisp November day. Their ceremony was surrounded by vines, olive trees, and beautiful hills at sunset. It was so gorgeous and absolutely perfect!

They had originally planned their reception to be inside the tasting room, but the pandemic forced their wedding all outside. We absolutely loved their wedding decor and how several tables were actually around the tree planters with the trees were wrapped in stunning twinkle lights. They even set up heat lamps and put an adorable blanket at each setting.

It was a beautiful day, and we're so happy we could capture it for them. Congratulations!!

Marriott San Francisco Wedding Minimony Kathy and Alex was stunning from beginning to end! Even with COVID altering their plans multiple times, they were finally able to host their luxurious wedding celebration at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront Hotel with masks and distancing. The Marriott event rooms were completely transformed for both the gorgeous and light ceremony and their pink and elegant reception. They even had their stunning three-tiered wedding cake on a floral swing!! Every detail was amazing, and we're so happy that we got to capture it all for them. Congratulations, Kathy and Alex!

Our Peter Pan Halloween

This was supposed to be Ethan's first year going Trick or Treating door to door around our neighborhood. He would have gotten to watch other little kids and wave to them as he passed. He would have gotten to see smiling faces when the doors opened. Sadly, that's just not going to happen this year. Even so, I can't just let Halloween go by without doing something, so I went into my costume boxes, looked in the closet, and put together costumes for us! I actually managed to do it using only what I already had (with the exception of the hook). See, I love costumes. Absolutely love them. I remember going into Hancock Fabrics with my mom. While she searched for fabrics, I sat at the pattern table and looked through all the costume patterns. I loved them all. Back then, my mom would make all my Halloween costumes. I had only to ask, and she'd make it happen, and then I would help decorate (which usually meant swirled glitter glue on every costume). Even then, I dreamed about the day when I too would make costumes for my kids. There was just one problem.

I couldn't sew.

I tried to learn on my mom's sewing machine, but every time I tried, I'd break it. I started coming to the heartbreaking realization that I wasn't cut out for costume construction, and my kids would be stuck with store bought costumes - not because they were better, but because I couldn't make them myself. Well, fast forward to my college days. I decided to take a costume construction class since I was involved in theater. Once I started, I never stopped! I found I was a natural at sewing, and I could even make patterns! I called up my mom to tell her how happy I was with my progress and how there was once again hope for my future children. She seemed surprised that I had essentially given up on the idea of ever being able to sew.

"But, Mom, I broke your machine every time I tried to practice on it."

She laughed. "THAT'S what you're basing this on? Honey, that machine is horrible. It breaks all the time!"

If I had only known that, it would have saved me some tears! The years went on, and I kept sewing here and there as I found time and inspiration. I got a new sewing machine (one that would not break with every attempt to be creative), and I was all set. I've since made several costumes for James and I from scratch, but this year, I didn't want to spend too much time on costumes that wouldn't be going trick or treating. Instead, I repurposed other items I had and gave myself the challenge to work with what I already had in the house. Luckily, I love pirates and swords, so I already had a lot of accessories for Hook. I also had a vintage nightgown that worked perfectly for Wendy.

So, our Halloween celebration was doing a photoshoot in costume (I even got James to dress up and wear jewelry - which is a HUGE accomplishment!). And of course, I threw in some special magical touches. I'm so pleased with the shoot, and I hope you enjoy it too!!

Now to think about next year! Any ideas???

How to Edit the Same Photo: Light & Bright or Dark & Moody

Hello, fellow photographers! So, back when James and I started shooting weddings 10 years ago (oh, my goodness - has it been a decade already?!), one struggle I had was editing style. I didn't know the proper way to edit or what aesthetic our brand should have. I'll admit, the beginning edits were rough! I was SO self conscious about my editing, so I've been there! But, I learned, practiced, and increased my skillset. The big breakthrough for me was when I switched to Adobe Lightroom and started using the Tone Curve more. Up until that point, I had been editing and culling in Photoshop. Though I rely on both for editing (I do more extensive editing in Photoshop when the need arises - and all my artsy photoshoots are done in Photoshop), Lightroom is really just the best for culling large batches of images. I spend time on each and every image, and when you shoot thousands of images at a wedding, finding programs like Lightroom that can save time here and there is HUGE!

So, back to aesthetics. I just love wedding photos that are bright, light, and airy, so that is how we edit, but there are a lot of photographers who do dark and moody shots too. And those look great as well! Even if you choose one or the other, it's a good idea to play around in Lightroom to create both looks so you know how to use the tools in your toolbox. I did add in an affiliate link to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop because as a professional photographer, those programs are an absolute necessity to me. So, if you don't have them yet, you've got to give them a try!

Now, of course the final product will depend on the image, but I put together a short tutorial to show you how you can get both looks from the same photo just with some quick edits in Lightroom! I chose an image with a light background to show how it can be done both ways. After all, as wedding photographers, we can't always choose the background. Sometimes we only have a bright sky, and sometimes we only have a dark forest background. But there are things we can do! So, play around with your edits, and I hope the video helps!

Treehouse Bay Area Honeymoons and Vacations

So, let's talk honeymoons! I don't know about you, but ever since I saw Swiss Family Robinson, I have always wanted to stay in a treehouse. I think it could be super romantic and just all around FUN! And I just love the idea of making it into a honeymoon. That'd pretty much be the coolest honeymoon ever! Even though I've always wanted to do it, I never knew of an actual treehouse that you could go stay in that was like a bed and breakfast. Enter AirBnB. It's like a whole world has opened up, and sooo many more honeymoon options are possible. Even if you're already married, it still makes for a great getaway - particularly now when we've all been stuck at home for so long. Something like an Airbnb is a pretty safe option to get a change of scenery, and it can be more inexpensive to have a staycation rather than traveling out of state or country anyway.

One thing I've been doing A LOT of these days is "window shopping" online. I had been compiling a list of treehouses (because I need to go NOW!), and then it dawned on me! This could be helpful to our brides and grooms! So, here it is! Now, I haven't been to these places (YET!), so the photos shown on Airbnb aren't my photos, and yes, there are some affiliate links in there to help you plan your perfect honeymoon, babycation, staycation, or all around cabin fever get-me-out-of-these-four-same-walls vacation! Rebecca and Kevin had their wedding all planned and ready to go at Domenico Winery. Then, only a couple weeks before their wedding, COVID caused all indoor wineries to close down. Rebecca and Kevin are such an amazing couple, and everyone wanted to give them the perfect day. So, we immediately started brainstorming ideas for a new spot, as did Domenico. And it all came together! It was a beautiful day starting at Windy Hill Preserve and continuing onto Holbrook Palmer Park in Palo Alto. They are both great venue spots for a minimony elopement or intimate ceremony. I absolutely loved their sweet details - particularly the sweetheart table and that minimalist macaron cake!! I seriously think it's one of my favorite cakes to date. Another favorite detail of mine was Rebecca's vintage style wedding dress by BHLDN. It was absolutely STUNNING! And Kevin's look perfectly complimented hers too. It was a picture perfect day, but more important than that, it was a wonderful day to celebrate Rebecca and Kevin. They are absolutely each other's soulmates, and we're so happy we could capture their beautiful love story!

Emily and David's Park Engagement

We had such a great time with Emily and David at their engagement shoot. They wanted a forest feeling for their photos, so we suggested the Los Altos Redwood Grove. It's a great little gem in the middle of a neighborhood and a perfect place to be in the woods without having to drive up to the mountains. Emily looked absolutely stunning in a red floral two-piece dress, and we loved how it popped against the green trees. We then moved onto Gamble Garden for another gorgeous backdrop amongst the flowers. It was a beautiful day with a beautiful couple! Emily and David were just so much fun to be with. They are so cute together, and they make each other laugh all the time. You can't help but smile when you're around them! We seriously can't wait until their big day!

Devery & Manuel's Backyard Wedding

One of the best parts about being a wedding photographer is meeting amazing people. Devery and Manuel captured our hearts from the moment we met them. We had so much fun at their engagement shoot, and it felt like we became instant friends. Devery actually texts me on every holiday and even messaged me the day her BEAUTIFUL baby boy was born. There is A LOT going on when your baby is born, (and of course, you are EXHAUSTED), and yet she still took the time to include us in such an amazing moment.

Devery and Manuel had to replan their wedding when COVID hit. Even though they had to change things, it still turned out AMAZING. They got married in a stunning backyard wedding in San Jose surrounded by family and friends (socially distanced, of course!). They even gave out masks and hand sanitizer as favors! It was a perfect day, and we were so honored to be a part of it!

Jenn & Fred's Backyard Wedding

Jenn and Fred's love story is straight out of a novel. They were high school sweethearts, but life took them in different directions. Both went on to other relationships and had families of their own. Even though they weren't a part of each other's lives during that time, they still always remembered to wish each other happy birthday on each other's birthdays (which are only a day apart!). 30 years later, they saw each other from across a Target, and the rest is history! They said that first hug in three decades made their hearts just feel finally at home.

After 30+ years of waiting to be together, they wanted to be married even when COVID-19 ruined their wedding plans. In fact, they had to plan their wedding three times! They had originally planned to marry in Mexico. With travel being problematic, they changed their wedding to a venue in San Jose. Then, venues were shut down, so they moved their wedding to their own backyard in Hollister. It was a beautiful day, and a beautiful beginning to the next chapter of their love story.

Ice Cream Emporium

I was over the moon when I heard that our small town of Ripon, CA was getting an old-fashioned ice cream parlor by the same wonderful family that brought us Pizza Plus, the Willeys! Of course, I was thrilled when they asked me to do food photography for them!

The inside is straight out of Disneyland. The pink walls are adorned with beautiful Disney art, there is vintage gold decor and light fixtures, and a whole wall is a black and white photo of Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney!

Their ice cream is absolutely DELICIOUS! They have amazing sundaes like the Strawberry Cheesecake Sunday and the new Matterhorn, a mint chocolate sundae. Their ice cream sandwiches are huge and amazing, but the most impressive creation is their Grand Emporium, a 15-scoop sundae with 15 toppings!

Rebecca and Kevin's Engagement Shoot

We're back to shooting! We had a great first engagement session with Rebecca and Kevin, who, like many couples, have had to replan their wedding due to COVID-19... And then replan their wedding... And then replan their wedding! With all the uncertainty of the world, there are a lot of changes going on for all brides and grooms. Throughout all of this, Rebecca and Kevin have been each other's rocks. Nothing could have brought them down when it finally came time for their engagement shoot. They were all smiles when meeting us at Potrero Hill for the first part of their engagement shoot. We were too, but you couldn't tell behind our masks (haha!).

When they first started planning their engagement shoot, they knew they wanted to shoot in the gorgeous rolling hills by their ceremony site. Their ceremony site has since changed, but we kept the beautiful hills for their engagement shoot, and we're sure glad we did! Rebecca and Kevin also wanted an iconic location in San Francisco, but they weren't quite sure where to shoot to avoid crowds and keep to social distancing. We suggested Potrero Hill and the secret spot that makes it look like you are one with the cityscape. They loved the idea!

They were up for anything and everything, and they made our first engagement shoot (since COVID became a household name) so easy and FUN! We can't wait for their special day, and we know it's going to be absolutely amazing.

Cherrelle's Surprise Graduation Celebration

With everything going on with COVID-19, so many celebrations are being put on hold and some are being cancelled altogether - like the graduation ceremonies for the class of 2020. Even though there can't be a big graduation, friends and family are still thinking of creative ways to show their love and support while social distancing.

One night, I was on Facebook when I saw a request from an amazing lady named Jade who had a friend who was graduating. She lived hours away, but she wanted to arrange a surprise porch session as a graduation gift for her friend, Cherrelle. I immediately contacted Jade, and we started chatting about the surprise. Cherrelle hadn't even been able to order a cap and gown, so we found one for her from Amazon. Jade then contacted her friends who lived in the area and arranged a drive-by parade to celebrate the big day.

Cherrelle's husband and daughter cleverly had her pose just right for me so that she could see the cars approach, and when she suddenly recognized her friends waving, her face just lit up! She was so surprised and excited.

After the drive-by, we did a photoshoot of her in the gorgeous hills next to her house. Telephoto lenses allowed me to get the close up shots I wanted while still keeping to social distancing. I was so happy I could be a part of such a sweet graduation celebration for her. I'm sure it's going to be even more memorable to Cherrelle then it would have been had things been normal. She has amazing friends and family to arrange something so special, especially from far away.

Elopements

The world is going to look different after COVID-19, and the wedding industry is no exception. We don't know the extent of restrictions that will be in place to try to keep weddings and other public gatherings safe in California, but odds are it will involve one or all of these: social distancing, gathering limits, and face masks.

This news is not all bad. First, it'll be in place to keep you and your loved ones safe. It's also a chance to do something different and even unique. If you can't have your big wedding celebration in 2020 like you planned, you can still get married. We offer an elopement or intimate ceremony package. Angela is ordained and can perform the ceremony as James photographs it and acts as a witness. We then will do a special photoshoot for you. One of the neat things about an elopement or intimate ceremony is that you can get married someplace you never would have been able to otherwise. Get married on the top of Glacier Point with Half Dome in the background. Get married on a bridge. Get married on an airfield. Get married on the sand dunes. Get married in a bookstore. Get married in a theater. I could keep going! Then, you can still have your big wedding later with friends and family when it's safe. It's the best of both worlds, and it means you can get married to the love of your life sooner rather than later!

Sweet Crumbles Bakeshop

I am a bit obsessed with sweets. When I sit down to my computer after getting our son to sleep, I typically have something sweet within reach. I'm also obsessed with photos of dessert. So, when Sweet Crumbles Bakeshop contacted me about shooting their baked goods, I was soooo excited! I wanted to give a homebaked feel since she makes all the sweets herself, so I set up the scene to look like they were in the process of being made. I loved the results! And, I must say, those chocolate chip cookies are the best ones that I've EVER had. The cinnamon twists were divine, and the sugar cookies were addicting. James laughs at me for my "happy food dance" and my "happy food sounds" that I do when I eat something I really, really like. Needless to say, the whole time I was eating the sweets from Sweet Crumbles Bakeshop, I was dancing and humming!

A Matter of Taste

Pizza Plus

I was SUPER excited when I heard from Pizza Plus about doing their food photography. They are a famous landmark here in Ripon, CA, and their pizza is AMAZING. I am not a huge thick crust person, and the moment I tried their thick crust, I was hooked for life. They have great pizzas like their Moe's BBQ and Vegetarian, but you can make your own as well. I'm personally addicted to their Yuppie pizza, which is olive oil, cheese, cooked tomatoes, garlic, and fresh basil. They also serve delicious bone-in BBQ wings and sandwiches. Love them!

Burgess Baking Company

It was so fun shooting for Burgess Baking Company, located in downtown Ripon, CA. Due to COVID-19, I did a no contact pickup and shot in my home studio. Their burgers are amazing, so I wanted to make sure my styling and photography really made the burger pop. They may be a bakery, but they serve amazing burgers and chicken sandwiches too! Of course, no bakery shoot would be complete without photographing some cupcakes, cookies, and macarons! So delicious!

Brides: What to Wear to Your Engagement Shoot

One of the biggest steps of the wedding planning journey is to pick out your wedding dress. It's a truly magical moment to find the One. Yet, as all brides know, there are more outfits that you'll need during your engagement. There's the what you'll wear to your Bridal Shower, to your Rehearsal, and what will you wear after the wedding on your honeymoon? Besides the wedding dress though, possibly the most important outfit is the one you wear to your engagement shoot. Just like your wedding photos, those photos will be cherished for the rest of your life, so you'll want to make sure it's something that you really love and that you feel gorgeous in!

I personally love it when the bride wears a long dress, something that will catch the wind and flow behind you as you walk. Having fabric float like that adds a special wow factor to your photos. The fun part is this look is great with any backdrop. Shooting at a classic location like San Francisco City Hall or Legion of Honor? The long flowing dress fits right in! Shooting in the woods or on the beach? The long dress looks fairytale-like in natural settings. Shooting at a more casual setting like a fast food location or an urban location? The juxtaposition is actually really eye catching! You could do anything from a summer strappy maxi or a short sleeve button up maxi to a more formal gown like a sequin dress (which would also make a great bridesmaid dress) or an off the shoulder ball gown or a floor length tulle dress.

If you are looking for a more fun-feeling shoot, then a cute romper may be the way to go. This is especially true if you'll be picnicking at the beach or going to the boardwalk or perhaps a carnival. Similar looks online include this red and white floral romper or this pale blue romper with white embroidery. This looks great with bare feet or little strappy heels.

Of course, you don't have to follow these ideas. Want to wear a sleek midi? Do it! Or a unique cocktail dress? Yes! Or how about a cape blazer? A sexy jumpsuit? YES! If you feel like a million bucks, it'll show on your face and make your shoot all the more fun!

Bryana & Hakeem's Burgundy Champagne Wedding

It was just an ordinary day when Hakeem stopped by the bank to make a deposit, but when he saw Bryana behind the counter, his world changed forever. It was love at first sight, and he knew he had to get her number. Just when he got her number, she changed it! Luckily, Hakeem got her new number, and they have been inseparable for 10 years!

Finally, the two tied the knot on Super Bowl Sunday at Garré Vineyard and Winery in Livermore, California. It was a cold and very windy day, but nothing could put a damper on the happy day. Everyone kept saying how perfect Bryana and Hakeem are for each other, and it's clear to all who see them together. They are each other's constant support and unconditional love.

Monique & Dante's San Francisco Engagement Shoot

It was an absolutely STUNNING day in San Francisco for Monique and Dante's engagement shoot. We couldn't have asked for better weather or for a better couple to share it with. Monique and Dante were all smiles and so much fun. Dante kept us laughing the whole time. Anytime we asked that they kiss for a photo, or snuggle, he'd always say, "Ohhhh, yeah!!" It was just the sweetest thing! They were just so happy to be in each other's arms. At one point, Monique was unsure of her footing, and Dante commented, "I'm not going to let you fall, don't worry. We're getting married, and that's what getting married means. I'm never going to let you fall." Can we say "Relationship Goals?!?!" SO beautiful!

My excitement grew as I saw them walking up the hill to meet us. Jakob was all smiles, Natasha looked stunning in a long blue dress, and little Benny was adorable in his new favorite accessory - his cowboy hat! They are such a sweet family, and they were so great to photograph. Benny wanted to be right by their side and join in the photography fun - well, unless he thought he saw a bird or horse that is!

We always love getting to know our couples, and we instantly clicked with them. They are both so sweet, and we had so much fun with them!!

Shelly & John's Sweet Forest Wedding

We immediately clicked with Shelly and John. They were so much fun to be around, and we share a love of Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, musicals, and Star Wars! They are also incredibly sweet. They knew that it was our 5 year wedding anniversary on their wedding day. Not only did they remember that and wish us happy anniversary right away, but they also told friends and family as well and even had the DJ announce it! The mother of the bride then invited us to the dance floor to do a special dance together, surrounded by the guests. That was definitely a first! We are regularly on the dance floor with great music, but we don't get to dance together, so that was really sweet. It meant the absolute world to us that they made our anniversary special! That is a perfect example of what amazing people Shelly and John are.

They were so cute to watch throughout the whole day. They make each other laugh and smile, and they absolutely light up around each other, which was clear to everyone there. Guests came from far and wide to join Shelly and John on their wedding day, which is a true testament to how loved they are. Even though the couple lives away from friends and family in Hawaii (where they are both officers in the Navy), they have always been there for those they love. We are so honored that we could be there with them on their beautiful day too.

When Nicole and Patrick told us they wanted an engagement shoot in the Napa Valley, one location immediately came to mind - Castello di Amorosa! They had never seen pictures of the location before, so when they pulled up, they were in complete awe. We just love making fairytales come true like that!

We had such a wonderful time with them. We didn't want the shoot to end! They are incredibly fun and sweet, and their love for each other is overflowing and absolutely beautiful. It's a joy to photograph!

Julie & Jose's Livermore Engagement Shoot

Once again, photography has brought old friends back into my life, and I'm loving it! Julie and I went to high school together, so when I heard she was marrying the love of her life and wanted us to photograph it, I was thrilled! It was so great seeing her again after all these years, but it was even better seeing the way she looks at Jose and how he looks at her. They are so happy together, and it's clear that they are completely head over heels. Their smiles and laughter is absolutely contagious!

To make their engagement shoot all the more special, the couple invited Jose's daughters to enjoy the park as Julie and Jose took photos with us. They even made a day of it! We love when engagement shoots can turn into date nights or fun days. Plus, the girls got to jump in a few photos too!

They are such a beautiful family, and we can't wait until the big day! Congratulations!

Dawn & Greg's Fun Post Wedding Bowling Shoot

Dawn and Greg wanted a fun and colorful post-wedding shoot, and we just LOVE that they chose a bowling alley in their wedding clothes! We had so much fun with them. We all wanted to embrace the fact that we were shooting there, so we utilized the lockers, the walls, the chairs, and even the food! Homestead Bowl was so accommodating, and they even brought us back into the mechanism! The little kid in all of us got pretty giddy when we found out we could go back there. And, I'm pretty sure no one has seen a pair of legs in place of bowling pins!

Elizabeth and Sam's Ritzy City Wedding

We were so excited for Elizabeth and Sam's wedding in San Francisco. They are both so sweet and just a joy to spend time with.

One of the first things we learned about the wedding was that Elizabeth was planning to knit her wedding dress! How amazing is that?! She even documented the process on her Instagram with the hashtag, #whatkindoflunatickintsaweddingdress (which is one of the funniest hashtags ever!). The result is absolutely amazing! Look at that detail!

Elizabeth and Sam had an intimate ceremony on the top floor of Wayfare Tavern underneath the Transamerica Pyramid, officiated by Elizabeth's best friend (and another ShootAnyAngle bride), Maria. Musicians played during both the ceremony and reception. The day was perfect from start to finish. We were also absolutely in love with the venue. Wayfare Tavern is very posh and unique. There is even a safe that has been transformed into a private room! It made for great photos!

Barbara & Dave's Sweet Dockside Wedding

Barbara first met Dave at a mutual friend's party. She tripped over their dog in front of Dave, he helped her up, and the rest is history! As she says, "You could say I really fell for him!" They quickly bonded over their love of hiking, fishing, traveling, and SyFi and Horror movies.

Barbara and Dave had an absolutely stunning wedding right alongside the water at The Boathouse at River Islands. They fell in love with the venue after visiting there for Valentine's Day. The venue is on its own peninsula out in the lake, and it's so gorgeous! The ceremony overlooked the water and was picture perfect. However, there was one person who found eating his tie a bit more entertaining - the ring bearer!

Barbara and Dave are such a fun and loving couple, and it showed through in their wedding. Their blue and purple theme really made the decor and flowers pop, they gave bubbles to the guests, provided the ShootAnyAngle Photo Booth during the reception, and the father-daughter dance even included several different types of music and fun dancing! They were all smiles all day, and they had such a wonderful time celebrating their love with their friends and family.

As fellow Disney lovers, they incorporated Disney throughout their wedding. Neil wore the grape bottle cap pin from the movie, Up, on his jacket, and Alex had hers on her bouquet. They made sure to request enough Disney music so that it could play all day! Of course, they made sure to bring along their lightsabers too! When we learned that, we decided right then and there that we would do extra special night photos for them.

Their happily ever after began in the woods with a beautiful ceremony straight out of a fairytale. As ever, their sweet dog, Lucy, was by their side. It had been overcast all day, and it had even drizzled earlier. Just before the ceremony started, though, the sky just above cleared a bit in time for Alex's entrance (which Neil was so excited about that he stood on his tippy toes to look over the crowd for her). After the ceremony, guests moved down the hill to the reception where they enjoyed an amazing dinner, dancing, cupcakes, cake, and they even got to fill bags with candy!

It was a beautiful day, and we were so honored to be a part of it!

Dawn & Greg's Dramatic Outdoor Wedding

Dawn and Greg wanted their day to be unique and represent their personalities, and it was full of surprises! Dawn is a theatre actress, so she wanted a splash of drama in the ceremony. So, the couple's friend danced down the aisle doing a dramatization of married life to the song, "Mahna Mahna" from The Muppets. Everyone loved it!

Dawn loves rose gold and purple and green, so those colors were throughout the wedding. Not only in the GORGEOUS ceremony arch and bouquet, but she also added copper to her wedding dress by taking a belt and making it into straps for her Trudy's dress. Greg also picked out a stunning engagement ring and wedding band in her favorite rose gold hue.

At the reception, Dawn surprised her new husband by singing "Someone Like You" from the Broadway musical, Jekyll and Hyde. Her voice stunned everyone with its beauty and power. Greg's eyes never left his wife as she sang. It was as if she were the only one in the room. The whole day, he watched her with such love and awe. When we began our Photo Hour, I actually leaned over to him, and said, "Hey, Greg, that's your wife over there." He got the biggest grin on his face and literally started hopping up and down. Dawn and Greg have truly "found their person," and we couldn't be happier for them!

Stella and Jeff had a beautiful church wedding way up in the Berkeley hills, so they had a stunning view of the bay. It was the perfect fit for them because they met at UC Berkeley, just below the venue. They've spent the last decade together enjoying that very same view!

They wanted to make their special day like a big family gathering, so they decided to forego a sweetheart table and instead sat amongst their guests. Everyone was laughing and having a great time enjoying catching up with friends and family, playing games, and enjoying a delicious Mexican dinner courtesy of Nopalito. For dessert, guests had their choice of pie, and Stella made a special pie herself for the cake cutting - which was so intricately decorated and simply stunning! It was a beautiful day!

Lindsay & Weston's Sweet Japanese Gardens Wedding

It was such an absolute treat to photograph Lindsay and Weston's wedding at the gorgeous Hakone Gardens in Saratoga. Their faces just glow when they look at each other, and they are completely head over heels in love. In their vows, they mentioned how they say, "I love you" probably 50 times a day, and each time it is filled with so much sincerity and excitement. They are so sweet together!

When it came time for the proposal, Weston was a bit concerned about keeping it a surprise because they are terrible at keeping secrets from each other. He designed the ring himself so it could be as unique as Lindsay. The day it was ready, he took Lindsay to Hakone and proposed on the bridge - the exact spot where they would later exchange vows!

Charleigh & Chris' Countryside Wedding

Charleigh and Chris have always loved the country feel and adventure. They met through mutual friends and soon bonded over their love of archery. They even attend an archery tournament in Las Vegas every year! So, when it came time for the proposal, Chris knew just where to pop the question. Just like their first time to Vegas, they went to watch the Bellagio Water Show. When Charleigh turned back to look at Chris, he was down on one knee!

Paicines Ranch was the perfect venue for them. Not only did it have the casual, rustic-country feel they were looking for (complete with a gorgeous barn!), but it also has beautiful victorian houses on the grounds for getting ready - and even staying the night! Plus, the view can't be beat. We had so much fun bringing the couple around the grounds for photos.

Guests had a blast playing cornhole, exploring the grounds, and dancing the night away. The bride even changed into another dress for dancing! It was the perfect day for a beautiful and sweet couple.

Maria & Ryan's Mission Wedding

Photography brings so much joy to my life. One big way it does that is by bringing back old friends! Maria and I went to high school together, but we lost touch after graduation. Years later, she ended up teaching at my alma mater, Santa Clara University! It meant so much to me to not only watch her marry the love of her life, but to also get to capture it for her!

Maria and Ryan's life changed for the better over a cup of coffee. They met online and arranged to meet at Great Bear Coffee in Los Gatos on New Year's Day. As she watched Ryan fuss over his coffee order, Maria knew she had found the man she would marry!

Ryan arranged a very special proposal for Maria. After a day of museum hopping around San Francisco, LeVar Burton (Maria's childhood hero) read her a story for his podcast, and then to finish off the day, Ryan took her to the Palace of Fine Arts and proposed at sunset. Needless to say, her answer was a huge "Yes!"

Maria and Ryan married at the Santa Clara University mission surrounded by not only family and friends but also childhood teachers! We even made sure to get some shots in Maria's office. They continued the celebration over at Ludwig's German Table in downtown San Jose - complete with a German band and the ShootAnyAngle Photo Booth! Everyone had a wonderful time and sweet words to share with the couple. The mother of the groom told the guests how Ryan can be introverted and quiet, but he just lights up around Maria and she around him. The proof? Their engagement photos!

Carley & Paul's Rustic Wedding Reception

Sometimes your perfect soulmate lives just across the street! Carley and Paul grew up only a stone's throw away from each other. Paul was in love with Carley the moment he saw her. He asked her out several times, but Carley was worried about losing their friendship, and so she would politely decline. It wasn't until Paul set up a surprise date that Carley realized just how much she truly loved him. And the rest is history!

Years later while camping with her family, Paul popped the question - with a Bud Light in his hand! They married at Paul's family's Church on a Thursday, so that they would have the same anniversary as Carley's parents and grandparents. Then, they hosted their reception at the Ranch at Little Hills on that Saturday. They wanted the reception to be lots of fun, so they had lawn games, inflatable guitars, a rocking DJ, a donut wall, the groom and groomsmen changed into tuxedo t-shirts, and they booked the ShootAnyAngle Photo Booth!

The couple were all smiles the whole day, and the way they look at each other is enough to melt anyone's heart. We loved capturing their love story!

Devery & Manuel's Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Engagement

We were so excited when Devery and Manuel's engagement shoot day finally arrived. It was an overcast day in Santa Cruz, but they were all smiles! Originally, the plan had just been to shoot at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk only, but when we learned that the couple were big football fans (of opposing teams!), we knew we had to add in something to show off their team jerseys. We worked with the nearby Santa Cruz High School to get permission to shoot on their football field, and it was so much fun!

Next, we moved to the Boardwalk. We have always loved the idea of a carnival engagement shoot, and we were extra excited to visit the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Did you know that James and I actually had our own first date there? And after all the rides and carnival food, I almost threw up on him! Luckily, everyone was still feeling happy (and healthy) by the time we finished. Devery and Manuel were up for anything and everything, so we had an absolute blast! They rode some classic rides, and even got a couple treats! It's sure to be a fun time when you combine an engagement shoot with a date night!

Savanna & Steven's Beautiful Backyard Wedding

Savanna and Steven were absolutely made for each other, and it was so much fun to be a part of their special day. They were already married with a gorgeous little girl when they decided to have a wedding celebration to include their friends and family, so they put together a sweet and intimate backyard ceremony. They even had an altar much like the bride's parents had at their wedding! Since it was similar, they asked that a cherished family photo be recreated, which we LOVED! After their ceremony, the bride and groom hosted their reception at Maggiano's in Santana Row. We were able to steal the couple away for some fun urban shots before the festivities.

They are truly each other's best friend, and the love they have for each other and their little girl radiates to all who see them. They laughed with us and told us they weren't used to posing for photos (and especially didn't know what to do with their hands, much like Ricky Bobby in the movie "Talladega Nights"), and we loved it because believe it or not, we're the same way! We saw ourselves in this couple, and it made the day all the more fun.

Before we photograph couples, we like to get to know them and their love story. Brian told us that the first time he saw Urooj, he was so smitten with her that he couldn’t take his eyes off her – so much so that he walked straight into a wall! And, or course, the rest is history.

We first met Shelby and Kevin (and their adorable son, Hudson) at their engagement shoot. They were all so fun to be around, and it was such a treat to capture their sweet story. So, we couldn’t wait for the big day!

The couple chose The Ranch at Little Hills for their wedding day, and it was the perfect backdrop for their rustic glam theme. All of the bridal party wore cowboy boots, and we loved how the men paired their sleek gray vests with blue jeans!

We instantly fell in love with the reception decor, which was so elegant and yet still had rustic touches here and there. And that sweetheart table! Gorgeous!

Shelby and Kevin made the wedding day kid-friendly as well. They included a kids table, coloring sheets, lawn games, and even cake pops! All of their guests had a wonderful time dancing the night away, taking photos in a vintage VW bus, and enjoying their delicious meals and dessert bar. It was a beautiful day, and we are so honored to have been a part of it.

We first met Aleks back when we photographed his brother’s wedding, and we were beyond thrilled when he and his fiancé, Alicia, contacted us about their engagement shoot and wedding. Their big day was at Sunol’s Casa Bella, and it was absolutely gorgeous from start to finish!

Every little detail was thought through and presented beautifully. The best part was the bride and groom themselves! The way they look at the other is just so sweet, and you can tell their favorite place to be is right besides each other! They are head over heels in love, which just makes our job easy!

Anne & Kevin’s Mission Gardens Wedding

Anne and Kevin’s wedding was such a treat to photograph! Their gorgeous wedding took place at Angela’s alma mater of Santa Clara University with a breathtaking ceremony inside the historic mission followed by a party under the stars outside of the Adobe Lodge.

Anne and Kevin met in Scotland (where Kevin is from), and they’ve been inseparable ever since. We loved hearing about their adventures in the UK, and how they became so close. You can tell these two are just filled with love and admiration for each other. It shines through in every smile, every glance, and every laugh.

Their reception was so elegant, and it also included personal touches too. Each table included a framed photo of their time together, and guests absolutely loved them! The couple also has a favorite chocolate from the UK, and they imported a ton of it to have as yummy favors for guests. Anne also made sure to wrap the cake stand holding those chocolates and her bouquet in a plaid ribbon to match Kevin’s family’s kilts.

The day was so special for everyone involved. Guests came from all over the world to support Anne and Kevin – even from Scotland and Iceland! The couple made sure to spend time with everyone, and there was certainly no shortage of laughter and merriment as the party went on throughout the night.

They live in France, but they enjoy traveling and their plans led them to Saratoga for a concert at The Mountain Winery, so they decided to get married while on vacation too! They chose the intimate Inn at Saratoga for their special day.

Jane and Chris started with a First Look along the creek bed that borders the inn and then moved under the veranda for their sweet ceremony. These two are so in tuned with each other that they both quoted The Beatles in their vows!

We’ve been counting down the days until Kristy and Kevin’s big day ever since photographing their sweet lighthouse engagement shoot. It was all laughter and smiles the whole time, so we knew their wedding day would be something truly special, and it was!

Kristy and Kevin’s ceremony was picturesque. They exchanged vows under a gorgeous chandelier with the woods and bridge in the background. Their first kiss was so sweet that the officiant even had them kiss again!

Their reception was an absolute blast, and you can’t beat the gorgeous background of the stone bridge! Kristina & Jirayr’s Elegant San Franciscan Wedding

We knew we’d have a great time with Kristina and Jirayr ever since we started planning their engagement shoot. They told us they wanted to incorporate Disney’s Aladdin, and being huge Disney fans ourselves, we were thrilled! Ever since then, we couldn’t wait until their big day in San Francisco. We knew it would simply be gorgeous!

Kristina and Jirayr told us about their first meeting and how even though they barely spoke during the work event, they kept catching each other’s eye throughout the evening. We saw that on their big day as well. A simple glance from one would make the other smile, and it was so sweet to witness.

The reception was quite a party! They did a traditional chair dance, and their overwhelming joy got everyone up out of their chairs and onto the dance floor. We generally see smaller groups on the dance floor, but everyone was just having a blast dancing the night away, and it was a joy to see!

It was said multiple times throughout the day, and we saw proof of it left and right – these two compliment each other so well, and they are each other’s perfect match. Congratulations, Kristina and Jirayr!

Corie and Ryan’s Intimate Forest Wedding

Corie and Ryan’s story actually started back when they were just 19. Life brought them back together years later and led to the perfect day at Saratoga Springs!

The couple really wanted to make sure that their friends and family were included in their special day and could enjoy the day to the fullest. Their little boy walked down the aisle too – actually, he ran over to his daddy and gave him a big hug!

Corie and Ryan are so crazy about each other that they actually kissed before the “you may now kiss the bride” line, which we absolutely loved! It’s moments like that that you’ll remember for a lifetime.

We are so happy for your happily ever after, Corie and Ryan!!

Janice & Cody’s Sweet Rengstorff Wedding

We simply couldn’t wait to return to Rengstorff House to capture Janice and Cody’s big day. These two are just so cute together, and we knew every moment would be magical (just like their engagement shoot at Sutro Baths!).

The day started with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, followed by an intimate outdoor ceremony. The couple both love watching The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, so right before being announced as husband and wife, the officiant handed a red rose boutonniere to Janice. She then turned to Cody and asked, “Will you accept this last rose?” It got a huge laugh, and it was a unique and cute way to bring in their combined interest.

It was a beautiful day for a truly beautiful couple. Congratulations, Janice and Cody!

Ariel and David’s Old Hollywood Wedding Premiere

We were so excited for Ariel and David’s Old Hollywood wedding, especially after having so much fun at their film noir engagement shoot! They chose the beautiful Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross, CA, which has so many beautiful spots to take photos!

Everything about the day was beautiful, but nothing could hold a candle to the joy of the bride and groom. They couldn’t stop staring at each other! Everyone at the wedding was talking about how perfect Ariel and David are for each other and how you just know they will always be together – and they definitely will be!

The Old Hollywood theme was one of our favorites. It was a perfect fit for Ariel and David, who are both in the film industry. Film reels hung from the ceremony gazebo and decorated the cake table, film strips were presented on the welcome table and cake table, and the cake was straight out of The Great Gatsby (complete with mini Mr. and Mrs. director chairs!). They even used our engagement photos as their guestbook! The photos were printed and laid on a welcome table, and guests were asked to autograph them. They had even printed a movie poster using one of the photos to put on their own red carpet backdrop for guests to take photos on like they were celebrities at a premiere!

This was a very special wedding for us, one we’ve been waiting for since we first met Ariel and David back in 2015 at another wedding. We love spending time with them both, and their wedding was simply stunning. There was another, more personal reason why this wedding will always stand out in our minds. As you may know, we are currently expecting. While finishing up photos with the bride and groom (and right after the photo below), we felt the baby move for the first time – and towards the bride and groom! Looks like someone else wanted to congratulate the happy couple too!

Vanessa & Bryan’s Mountain Wedding – With Touches of a Superman Theme!

When we learned that Vanessa and Bryan were both in theater and wanted touches of a Superman theme in their wedding, we knew we were in for a treat! Our imagination went crazy thinking of a fun photo we could set up specifically for their theme. So, we staged a shot to make them look like they were flying away!

Vanessa and Bryan’s wedding was just so sweet. The event took place at the bride’s grandmother’s home in Ben Lomond. They utilized the gorgeous property, including setting up the ceremony, and then the dance floor, under a dramatic willow tree. Guests also enjoyed the river, and they even enjoyed riding in paddleboat and canoes towards the end of the night!

The best weddings are ones where you absolutely feel like you are surrounded by love and part of the family. There was so much emotion in the ceremony and toasts and in the glances between the bride and groom. It was a treat to witness, and we all felt like family.

A huge congratulations, Vanessa and Bryan! You are the perfect pair, and we can’t see where you “fly” off to! Up, up, and away!

It was a hot day in the rest of the Bay Area, but as we drove closer and closer to our final destination at Sutro Baths and Lands End in San Francisco, the fog rolled in along with cooler temperatures. It was like a special little world had been created just for Ashlee and Paul’s engagement shoot!

Ashlee and Paul were the winners of our Ranch at Little Hills free engagement shoot giveaway, and we had so much fun with them! They were ready for everything and anything, and they were just so happy to celebrate their love for each other. They were all smiles, and we couldn’t help but smile along with them!

Lindsay & Weston’s Sunflower Engagement Shoot

One of our favorite things about working with lots of couples is that we always hear lots of great and unique ideas for engagement shoots and weddings. Lindsay and Weston told us at our first meeting that they loved the idea of shooting in a sunflower field. Talk about fun! We couldn’t wait to find the perfect farm, and we soon got in contact with Muller Ranch. They were very kind and worked with us to find the best location.

We literally met Lindsay and Weston out in the middle of the farm land, but we couldn’t have been happier with the spot. The sunflowers were gorgeous, and we were all alone in the beautiful scene.

Lindsay and Weston were so wonderful to photograph. More than once we caught them whispering sweet things to each other. They are so very much in love, and that’s what we love to capture!!

Chelsea & Branden’s Sweet Palo Alto Wedding

Chelsea and Branden were married surrounded by family and friends in Palo Alto. Since family is important to them, they created a very sweet and intimate wedding that even included their adorable dog, Happy! Since it was a small guest list, everyone felt blessed and special to be there – including us!

Chelsea loves Disney, and Branden loves VW cars (which fits myself and James perfectly!), so we were bound to have a great time with these two! For photo hour, we all traveled to a nearby park for some fun photos with the bridal party and with Branden’s car!

One of our favorite details of their wedding day was their donut cake. It was so beautifully done, and we instantly were gaga over it. After donuts, guests enjoyed an amazing first dance prepared by the couple. It started off as the classic slow dance but quickly turned into a fast paced choreographed hip hop style dance. It was the perfect way to get the guests in the mood to dance!

It was a beautiful day, and we were so blessed to photograph such a beautiful and loving couple. Congratulations, Chelsea and Branden!

Michele & Adrian’s Fairies and Dragons Wedding

We could hardly contain our excitement when Michele and Adrian told us the theme to their wedding. I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan, so hearing about their fairies and dragons theme really got me looking forward to their May wedding at Saratoga Springs.

The venue was a perfect backdrop, especially with the hidden bridge in the woods and the gorgeous (and huge!) long bridge that is straight out of a fairytale! Michele and Adrian’s decor perfectly fit the theme. The couple’s goblets were dragons that, when put together, made the shape of a heart. The flower girl wore a custom fairy dress, and Michele even wore a mini fairy in her necklace! The couple’s cake was truly stunning, and guests enjoyed gorgeous cupcakes with fairytale designs.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true fairytale without true love, and that’s exactly what Michele and Adrian have. We loved seeing the way they looked at each other throughout the day, and the little smiles as they held each other close. It was so sweet!

Megan & Ray’s Family Engagement Shoot

We absolutely love seeing couples that make each other laugh. A simple look will send the other one giggling, and it’s not only incredibly sweet to witness, but it also makes for great photos! Megan and Ray were laughing the whole time, and it made the shoot so much fun!

Megan and Ray chose the gorgeous Durst Winery as the backdrop for both their engagement shoot and their fall wedding. Not only was it a great location for photography, but it was a wonderful spot for their kids to hang out with Grandma until they were ready to join us for photos. We love that Megan and Ray chose to include their adorable little ones in their engagement shoot. After all, the wedding will be a big day for the whole family!

We can’t wait until October!
